First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move in School” Campaign

When you hear the word cancer, you immediately think of a serious issue. But what about the word obesity? Just go for a walk at the beach or the mall, and you will realize how serious this issue is. We, Americans, are fighting an epidemic as serious as cancer. Our lifestyles are more sedentary and thus over 68% of the adult population are overweight and obese. Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese.

First Lady Michelle Obama has begun a new campaign called “Let’s Move in School,” and we, the Bay Shore Wellness Alliance, are looking to you, students and teachers at Bay Shore, to show the First Lady that we can “move.”

During the week of May 1st – May 7th, Bay Shore HPEA department is going to offer you a various activities to provide and engage you in physical activity and increase school and community awareness about the purpose and value of physical education and physical activity.

We will kick-off First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move in School” Campaign with a walk on Sunday at 11 AM, right across the street from the reflection garden, 100 yards west of the Boulton Center. No need to register, just grab your family members, friends, boyfriend or girlfriend, and join us with thousands of other young leaders across the Nation.
