Gene Schmidt Wellness Center celebrates its 14th anniversary!

It was on the evening of this day fourteen years ago that the newly

constructed 500 square foot Wellness Center in the Bay Shore Middle School

was dedicated in honor of Gene Schmidt, the late Superintendent of the Bay

School District.

Dr. Schmidt had passed away earlier in the year after a protracted battle

with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He

had been strong advocate of physical fitness and advancing computer

technology in the schools.

This had transpired in less than a year following the founding of the

coalition which was be the Wellness Alliance.

A good thought, or two, to start this day.
